nunnery

Every time we look out of our balcony, we see the roofs of a local active nunnery that is close by.  We have looked at it and have wanted to check it out for quite a while now, so we did just that recently.  The day we happened to go, it was a bit cold and dreary, but we were still able to enjoy both the nunnery and the adjacent garden.

“The nunnery is called Chi Lin Nunnery.  It is a compound of wooden buildings built without the use of nails.  Instead of using nails, they used wooden brackets and dowelling to keep everything together.  The nunnery and the Nan Lian Garden were both built in the style of the Tang Dynasty(AD618-907).” (A little excerpt I found about it!)

The nunnery and garden were both very tranquil.  They are both beautifully kept and in great condition.  Definitely a place I’d like to revisit on a warmer day.  I really enjoyed checking these sites out and glad to be able to cross one more thing off of our very long list of things to see and experience in Hong Kong.

Door leading inside the Nunnery.

These are taken inside the nunnery.  The top image makes it look very secluded whereas the bottom one tells the truth about the location of it.  This gem is in the middle of Diamond Hill!

These are from the adjacent garden.  Again, I love how deceiving the top image is and  how the bottom makes it evident that HK is truly a thriving city.
