We have fallen into the rhythm of our new schedule as we are now three weeks into it. C has begun to get up later thankfully and is now waking up sometime after 5am and closer to 6am. The mornings are super busy, but things are getting done and we haven't been late yet! I get up every morning at about 5:30 now, which has been a BIG adjustment for me as I LOVE my sleep. I get up and get myself cleaned up first. Then I start pumping so that C has milk for the day while I'm at school. During this time, Matt helps out a bunch as he takes care of C (changes him, get's him dressed, plays with him) until I'm done with my pumping. Then Matt gets ready for the day and I nurse C. C sadly doesn't fall back to sleep anymore, so I end up playing with him or distract him with his toys while I finish getting ready for work. I don't eat breakfast at home anymore as there just isn't enough time for it. Instead, I pack my granola and yogurt and have it at school, so don't worry....I'm definitely not going hungry. Finally we get C's stuff together and head over to Apo's house and drop him off for the day and leave for work around 7am. Whew!
I don't know if it is because of our new schedule or what, but C has just been sleeping terribly this week. He has gone back to waking up A LOT during the night. We put him to bed and instead of waking up just once to nurse, he now wakes up multiple times. Matt has been amazing at handling most of the wake-ups as I don't want C relying on nursing to get back to sleep again. Usually Matt will get up and try to rock C to get him to calm down and if it works, then I'm off the hook. However, at least two times a night now C seems to NEED to nurse so we are back at it. It makes no sense, but I think we are so exhausted and desperately want sleep because of work that we are just making this all work for now. I'm pretty sure we'll have to sleep train again as it does need to change or we might just go insane.
C has done it again and has now learned to stand up in the crib (8/22)! Oh man...what a sight to see. The first time he did this we were SHOCKED as it was so unexpected. Since he's been waking up so much, C will now wake up, stand up, and have his arms out while crying to get us to pick him up. It is pretty pathetic and totally makes you feel terrible for leaving him in his crib. I know...we are suckers!
Day 232 (8/20)
C still loves his baths!
Day 233
Yay! Daddy's home from work!
Day 234
Time to put away the play mat as C likes standing up on it instead of laying under it these days.
Day 235
Check out those two bottom teeth! Such a happy baby!
Since I've started work, I don't have a lot of time to photograph C outside of our evening routine....which explains the two bath time pictures this week. Time for me to start being creative.
Day 236
C definitely likes his jumper!
Day 237
Too excited!
Day 238
Check out that sad face.
Put down the camera and get me out of here mama!
...Things to Remember...
- C ate beets this week and did NOT like it at all. Ha!
- C saw me eat a banana and really wanted some, so I thought I'd try to let him take a bite and he loved it! Don't worry...I was careful and made sure he was taking small bites. I'm not sure when the transition to chunkier foods happens or when we'll have the energy to make changes to C's diet, but I think it won't be much longer now.
- So let's talk for a minute about pumping at work. First of all, it is not fun. It takes time and I just don't have time. That said, a moms got to do what a moms got to do and this is a priority for me. I really want to make my goal of giving C breast milk until he is one years old, so I will keep pumping away. The other thing is that it just feels weird pumping in the classroom. Also getting interrupted while pumping is totally not cool. Thankfully no one has come in and I've got things locked up securely, but even just having someone knock on my door or try to turn the handle freaks me out. I can totally make it to January, right?!?

I've been thinking about C's sleep issue since I saw you ask advice about it on FB--not that I know ANYTHING about sleep training (yet)--but I'm thinking it kind of makes sense that now you're gone during the day that maybe he's wanting more of you at night? It could be the constant waking and need to nurse is more about seeking comfort and your presence than anything else. I don't know how much of a priority it is for you to have him in his crib (is it in your room, or a different one?)...but maybe he would sleep more easily if he shared your bed? That way, he always knows you're close, even if he does wake up, and it's not such an endeavor to wake up and get him, so you might be able to get back to sleep more easily too. Anyway, that's just a thought. I hope you find a solution so you all can get some good sleep!

ReplyDeleteI'm so impressed baby and blogging! See you have the baby bouncer - we were only talking the other day how we don't know how we would have survived without the baby swing, wind it up and see them swing with a gorgeous toothy grin.

Love his toothy picture!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful baby boy! I guess it is ok that he wasn't a fan of beets. I am not a fan of them myself! : )
ReplyDeleteI hope he starts sleeping again soon. I can't believe you have to get up at 5 AM. That is WAY too early for me!
