details

We are in Thailand right now at a teaching conference called EARCOS.  I'm having an amazing time and loving being in an environment that is so stimulating and inspiring.  The nerd in me has come out and I've become a note-taking machine trying to capture every idea and wondering how in the world I'm going to implement all the amazing strategies and programs in my classroom.  There is just not enough time in the day to do it all, but gosh darn it...I'm sure tempted to try!

However I digress as today is Friday, so that means I'm actually here to share another P52 project.  This week's P52 theme is details.  Luckily I planned ahead (yay me!) and took some photos of the flowers at the flower market below our apartment building to share.  I've taken pictures of the flowers in the market before, but most of my previous pictures were ones with the big picture in mind.  I took pictures that usually focused on the whole flower shop, the whole flower arrangement, or the whole flower.  On this outing though, I really tried to focus in on the details and simply capture the flowers.  As I was photographing the flowers, I so wished I had a different lens so I could capture a single flower in a single frame.  Just one more thing to add to my ever growing wish list!

The roses are pretty, pink, and perfect!

If I had photoshop, I would have totally taken off the staple before sharing...

Spring is finally here!

Happy sunflowers!

Fun, kookie looking flowers, right?

Love how the petals curl...so whimsical!

Pink & Green....the colors of our wedding! :)

I really enjoyed this theme as it caused me to look at things differently.  As I reflect on my photographic style, I realize that I tend to take the big pictures.  Pictures that encompass a whole scene and show a large space.  Pictures that show the whole person or a whole image.  I go in for the details occasionally, but there has to be something that really draws me in, a color or design that captures my interest.  It is definitely not automatic for me.  This theme though has helped me to see the beauty in the details and has reminded me to  go ahead and take a step in when taking pictures.  Hopefully I'll remember this nugget as I move forward in my photographic journey which I'm loving more and more everyday!

  7. Beautiful pictures! You did a great job even without a new lens (though I totally get the feeling!). We had a group of teachers at EARCOS in Bangkok last weekend, too...heard it was a good time!

  9. Love the flower details Melody. You and I are quite the opposite in what we normally shoot. I'm all about the details and not so much about shooting the big picture. Isn't it nice that the P52 challenge stretches us and causes us to do things differently?
    Keep shooting!

  10. Hi, Melody! Your flower images are beautiful. (I didn't notice the staple.) I was the opposite of you--always seeing the details and forgetting about the big picture! Funny how we're all different. :)

My favorite shots are the orange tulips and the pink hydrangea. The orange color is so vivid, and I love the dof on the hydrangea. So nice!!

    1. Thanks Liz! A couple people have mentioned that about the staple, so maybe I'm just being too hard on myself?!? :)
