I've got some BIG news to share...we are leaving Hong Kong in July and moving back to Thailand! As with anything, there is some excitement, some apprehension, and of course sadness. It is a bittersweet moment, but we know that it is the right decision and the right time.
I won't do a nostalgic post just yet as we still have 10 weeks (I'm not sure if I want it to fly by or not) remaining, so there is plenty of time for that on a later date. Today though, it seems fitting to share the second flat we've been in during our time here, especially since we are leaving it and you can see what you have missed out by not visiting us! :)
Our first apartment was on the 19th floor and was around 650 square feet and was near nothing. It was clean, it was new, and it was fancy. We enjoyed it, but definitely needed a change. Our second apartment is in an old building above the flower market. It is around 950 square feet, in a densely populated area (in the WORLD) with easy access to many things, and walking distance from work (although we still take a cab every morning).
We've come to love this tiny space. It is simple and modest and belongs to us. That said, I can't wait to be in a real house someday in the near future! :)
This is taken from the door and shows our living room, dining room, and hallway to the bedrooms.
Bedroom one became our closet and Bedroom two was our guest room/storage space/laundry room.
Bedroom three was huge and our master bedroom.
The kitchen. The space between the stove and sink is big enough for only one of us at a time. Some highlights include the toaster oven, the water dispenser, and our washing machine!
As these aren't the most thrilling of photos, I'll leave you with these fun ones of a delivery man on his bicycle filled with gas tanks outside of our apartment. Only in Asia...
Heavy load!
(Linking up with Sweet Shot Tuesday, Tuesdays Around the World, and Our World Tuesday.)
Your living area and main bedroom are delightful but as you say a change will be pleasant, especially being close to the action, as long as it's not too noisy or polluted.
ReplyDeleteThanks! Surprisingly, the noise isn't bad at all considering we are above a major road and the market. Pollution on the other hand sadly goes hand in hand with Hong Kong. :( I'm excited to move someplace where the air is a bit more fresh. :)
DeleteWhat a cute space! It's cool you're moving back to Thailand though - maybe we can meet up sometime! Do you know where you're going to live yet, or are things still up in the air?
ReplyDeleteThanks Jade! We are actually going to be back in Chiang Mai, so meeting up would be super! :)
DeleteThe living room looks nice and airy! I've noticed that the kitchens in China are often tiny! My son lived there for 5 years - part of the time in Shen Shen. It's not that tiny! I live in a condo in L.A. that is just under 1000 square feet!
ReplyDeleteThanks! We do have space and actually pretty good natural light. The kitchen just doesn't work for me (or I just use it as an excuse to not cook often). I totally forget that other people have small space issues as well, so thanks for the reminder! :)
DeleteI wish you all the best on your future move.
ReplyDeleteThe gas bottle delivery man is amazing!
Thank you! I'm glad you like the delivery man picture as those bottles are heavy! We are excited about the move and the next chapter of our lives. :)
Deletehow amazing that you find room for everything in that space - it looks like you all are living very comfortably there. i love those black and white print pillows on your couch!
ReplyDeleteThank you! The pillows were from IKEA (as was most things in our apartment). Let's just say that the small space has helped us learn what is important and what's worth donating, giving away, or just tossing. :)
Deletewaowww ! great pictures ! great blog !
ReplyDeletelove it !
^_^
Thank you Celine! :)
DeleteHi Melody! Thanks for stopping by my blog today.
ReplyDeleteYou apartment has everything......in small sizes. Now THAT is a tiny kitchen! I thought ours was small.
It must be exciting living in these countries and absorbing all the culture around you. What a life-changing experience for you two.
Thanks Jim! :) You are absolutely right...the apartment is just a miniature version of homes elsewhere. We are pretty blessed and are thankful to live the life we do. It is wonderful to travel and see a different part of the world and I'm so glad to be sharing it with you! :)
DeleteYou have made the space your own and it looks so warm and homey. You are so fortunate to have the opportunity to live there. It must be an amazing part of the world. Thanks for sharing the photos. Your kitchen may be a wee one, but it does what it has to do. genie
ReplyDeleteThanks Genie! You are right, we are totally able to get by with the kitchen we have. That said, I can't wait to have more space and room to make a big old mess! :) Life is pretty incredible and we are blessed to be out here and experience something so foreign. Can't wait for the next adventure!
DeleteWow, that is big news! Love those shots, especially of the delivery man, lol.
ReplyDeleteThank you! Some of the things I see out here are just too funny. The fashion especially! Yes it is and we are super excited! :)
DeleteHow exciting that you've decided on another country! Your apartment looks great--sounds like our! Gotta love the "laundry room" when your washer is in the kitchen! What do they use the propane tanks for there? We've never seen one in Korea.
ReplyDeleteThanks Chelsea! We are so happy to be moving back to Thailand and our counting down the weeks. The propane tanks are for gas stoves that are used quite often out here. This is totally random, but I just read an article about a Korean pop singer and some problems he was having due to where he graduated from University. So crazy! :)
